Harmonizing Wines with Zodiac Signs?

Yes! And this idea still makes perfect sense—and awakens the senses.

Ever since I came across the article “Sommelière Cecília Aldaz Harmonizes Wines and Zodiac Signs” back in 2011, I’ve been fascinated with the concept. I clipped it and saved it. Ten years later, I still believe that grapes, just like zodiac signs, have a soul, nuances, and an identity that deserves to be celebrated.

Today, we're talking about Virgo, the sign of precision, care, and silent sophistication.

🌾 Virgo’s Grape? GEWURZTRAMINER!

Virgos have a clinical eye on the world. They are observant, organized, and possess a unique ability to notice what others overlook. With their minds always in motion and their feet firmly planted in reality, they seek efficiency, clarity, and concrete results.

Gewurztraminer reflects this energy exactly. With its German origin, this grape is renowned for its aromatic intensity and consistently delivers outstanding results. Its name might seem complicated at first glance—but you just need to get to know it to realize its full potential. It's exotic and refined, intense without being flashy. And it has an almost mathematical delicacy in the way it structures its aromas and flavors.

Just like Virgo, Gewurztraminer impresses without needing to call attention to itself.

🍇 What Is Wine Made from Gewurztraminer Like?

According to the Wine Folly Essential Guide to Wine, Gewurztraminer produces aromatic white wines that are intensely fragrant with notes of sweet fruits and spices. On the palate, it can range from dry to sweet, which makes it versatile, but always precise.

It’s a wine that gets straight to the point: it delivers balance, beauty, and authenticity.

Its acidity is lower, but its perfume is striking. Because of this, it pairs incredibly well with dishes from Indian, Thai, or Asian cuisine in general—especially those with spicy sauces or bittersweet flavors. It softens the extremes, balances the spices, and enhances the details.

A Wine with a Virgo Soul

Virgo is about noticing what others don’t see. It's about bringing order to chaos, but with elegance and sensibility. And Gewurztraminer does exactly that with its aromatic profile that is both playful and exotic, always anchored by its structure.

It's a grape that works with precision but enchants with poetry.

So, do you identify with this wine? Let me know in the comments—I'd love to hear from you! 🥂
