Today I'm here to talk about "Astro-Speak," the language of astrology.
When we're learning a language—the process of literacy—we first learn the Letters. Then we combine letters into Syllables, syllables into Words, words into Sentences, sentences into Paragraphs, paragraphs into Essays, and essays into Incredible Texts, theses, and, why not, a Doctorate? We keep deepening and developing our language skills.
Learning the language of the stars is no different. First, we need to learn the letters. But what would that be in astrology?!
The Signs and their classifications, modes, and elements, which are the energies. The Astrological Houses, which are the areas of life experience.
The Planets, which are the functions.
The Aspects, which are the connections between one function and another.
As we master these letters, we start to form cosmic words and sentences. We combine Planets with Astrological Houses, uncovering what it's like to have a specific function in a certain area of our lives. We connect Planets with Signs, revealing how a function expresses itself through a unique energy. Then, we unite Planets with Houses and Signs, making Aspects with other Planets! And that's how the magic of astrological language happens.
There's an astrologer I really like, Stephen Arroyo, who has published many books on Psychological Astrology. He has a saying that I find very beautiful: astrologers are double translators. First, they decipher the language of the cosmos and transform it into a comprehensible astrological language, like translating the sky into "Saturn in Aquarius in Conjunction with Mars." And then, they translate that into our everyday language. That's the double translation.
Imagine how much richer our world would be if everyone understood this language. It would open doors to self-knowledge and help us understand the mysteries that permeate our lives.
In this sense, it's not enough to be a good astrologer; you have to be a great translator! And this reminds me of the words of Claudia Lisboa, my mentor and heart-mother, who always told us not to just read astrology books. As an astrologer, besides having astrological understanding, you need to know how to translate the sky in a way that everyone can comprehend.
Therefore, astrologers need to be masters of translation, since the ability to express oneself with versatility is essential for transmitting the knowledge of the stars.
