We've reached the text that will conclude our series on Modalities.

We've seen that Modalities are the classification that connects the signs to the seasons of the year. They represent the movement that the energy of each sign makes, connected to nature's rhythms: the seasons.

Cardinal signs represent the beginning of the seasons, and their main characteristic is impulse. Fixed signs represent the middle of the seasons, and their main characteristic is maintenance (or preservation).

Mutable signs mark the end of the seasons. They speak of a shift in the stability that was provided by the fixed signs and propose a preparation for a new cycle. The primary quality of this modality is malleability. Mutable signs possess the strength of adaptation and cycle completion! This is where we are curious, seek new paths, and move toward change and new possibilities.

When we consider the signs that make up this modality, we have:

Gemini is the Mutable Air sign

Here, the change is in thought: "On second thought, I've changed my mind!" Gemini moves in the direction of information.

Virgo is the Mutable Earth sign

It seeks changes to improve its work and routine, to make things simpler and more functional. Virgo moves in the direction of productivity and optimization.

Sagittarius is the Mutable Fire sign

In the pursuit of evolution and expanding horizons, this sign adapts its beliefs and ideals. Sagittarius moves in the direction of knowledge. This reminds me of that great quote: "The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size."

Pisces is the Mutable Water sign

Here, feelings change according to emotional and psychic perceptions. Pisces moves in the direction of contemplation and connection with the whole.

Mutable Energy in the Natal Chart

When we look at the energetic configuration of our Natal Chart, we can have each of the Modalities in balance, in excess, or in lack.

If we have excess Mutable energy, this can lead to great dispersion. We may experience a lot of instability and doubt, and, at the moment when we should choose an alternative to overcome a challenge, we might "get stuck," remain indecisive, and not know what to do.

In these cases, the best course of action is to practice focus, enabling the power of concentration and choice. It's about exercising the ability to "do one thing at a time."

If there is a lack of this energy, it's possible to experience inflexibility and difficulty in seeing different perspectives. We can become a bit rigid due to a lack of adaptability and feel trapped by the difficulty in making changes. In these cases, the best thing is to be willing to have new experiences so that, through these lived moments, it becomes possible to develop malleability.
