The Modalities: Fixed Signs

Here we are to talk about the second modality: the Fixed Signs.
But first, let's just recap what the Modalities are.
The Modalities represent the rhythm of each sign, the movement that energy makes. Whether it has the energy to initiate, to maintain, or to deal with a transition and finalize a cycle. Each Modality brings together one sign from each Element. At the same time, each Element will have one sign from each Modality.
Now, let's get into it!
The Fixed signs are the ones that follow the beginning of the seasons, representing the middle of the season, where the season stabilizes and leaves no doubt about its presence. Their function is to extract the maximum potential from what was generated by the Cardinal signs and, simultaneously, to perpetuate them. They represent fullness, where cycles reach their maximum vigor and development.
The main characteristic of this modality is persistence (or insistence). Its role is to maintain what has been created. They are signs of sustenance and function as foundations, providing consistency to the structure of who we are. Fixed signs symbolize stability and security: they are obstinate about keeping everything under control. They are: Leo (Fire Element); Taurus (Earth Element); Aquarius (Air Element); and Scorpio (Water Element).
Leo is the Fixed Fire sign
It maintains our own way of being and existing in the world; here, we speak of firmness in actions.
Taurus is the Fixed Earth sign
It maintains realization in the world and the generation of resources; it has the determination to carry out tasks.
Aquarius is the Fixed Air sign
It maintains social relations and ideas. As a visionary energy, it has a future vision. However, for an idea to become revolutionary, it must be realized in the world. Aquarius maintains the idea until it materializes. Its ideas are consistent and firm.
Scorpio is the Fixed Water sign
It maintains the deepest parts of ourselves—our subjectivity—and exercises emotional control. It's also connected to the only certainty we all have: the finality of our existence.
Fixed Energy in the Natal Chart
When we look at the energetic configuration of our Natal Chart, we can have a modality that is balanced, in excess, or in lack.
When we have an excess of Fixed energy, we can become very controlling and want things to happen exactly as planned, and this won't always be the case. Our role is to learn to become more flexible and flow better with what is not in our hands. The great lesson is that we don't have control over everything, or rather, over almost anything. In fact, I feel that the "Serenity Prayer" has a lot to teach us about this. It goes like this:
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference."
Now, when we have a lack of this energy, we can be the person who starts many projects but ends up getting dispersed by new ideas. Amidst so many possibilities, we might not know how to prioritize and fail to achieve our goal. Thus, we need to learn to focus and concentrate energy to materialize what is important to us.
The energy of maintenance is essential to bring security to our daily lives, as well as crucial for realizing our objectives. The important thing is to find a middle path: neither so fixed that you become too rigid or controlling, nor so fluid that you get lost in daydreams and fail to materialize ideas.
